Thanks to one of the most incredible professors I have ever had, I stumbled upon this link. This is an article from Relevant Magazine that aims to reach Christians in their twenty’s and thirty’s. Relevant Magazine does not feature articles about how relevant the magazine is to each reader’s life, but how God is relevant and present in every aspect of life.
Below is a recent article. It is very appropriate to each of our lives that social media has become such a big part of.
Stop Instagramming Your Perfect Life
This article talks about how society has become somewhat obsessive over Facebook, Instagram, etc. I really enjoyed this article and I wanted to share it all with you because I believe that it increases awareness about our usage of social media and the feelings that are associated with the applications.
I am guilty of what this article is trying to make readers aware of. I love Facebook. I love Instagram. I think that they are incredible tools and platforms of communication. Being 5,000 miles away from home, and living 6 hours ahead of the most important people in my life, I take advantage of all of these mediums to remain active in the lives of my friends and family.
I do think that any tool of any kind can be used for better or worse. The goal of my Facebook, my Instagrammed photos, or even this very Blog, is not to fool the viewer, but to include them in my life.
I know, looking at my previous posts, photos, and status updates, one would think my life is pretty perfect. My life is incredible and I am blessed with opportunities that most people will never be able to experience. But, my life is far from perfect and that is why I love it so much.
A person cannot appreciate what is truly beautiful in life without knowing the ugly. It has been almost 3 months since I have been home, and believe me, there were and still are many days where I want to just go home, cuddle my kitty and watch a movie with my sisters. In those moments, I try and think about how amazing it is going to be when I return to the States and get to do all the things that I miss dearly. Of course, it will only be hours after my arrival that I will be fighting with my little sister, most likely about going through my suitcase looking for something to wear BEFORE I even get the chance to unpack it. Yes, Lisa. I am referencing you.
My goal of this post is for each of you to read the Relevant article and to become more aware of each click on Facebook and Instagram. Any creation can promote two things: Vice or Virtue. I challenge each of you to join me in becoming more aware of our actions and to always move towards the light.
